Clelia Sheppard is a whirlwind of creativity, inspiration and generous spirit. Her paintings reflect her approach to life and range from delightful portrays to brooding renderings. Her innovative approach can be as provocative as beautiful.

The oil paintings on this website accompany you through her artistic experience and cover an extensive segment of time in the life of Clelia’s emotions. She feels this is a cross road in her life and she offers her past, present and future through these statements on canvas.

Time is the dominating theme that recurs relentlessly throughout her work. Her sense of wanting to understand the enigmatic secret of life is seen through the powerful and vibrant colors that scrape through layers and layers of knowledge.

Clelia’s work has been featured and recognized in many galleries and exhibitions both here and abroad. Her work has been selected by private collectors, who have commissioned her art for churches, museums and public facilities.

Clelia has had the privilege of planting the seed of Arts Enter, a non profit organization in Cape Charles, that has grown and flourished over the past 9 years. The Stage Door Gallery is a part of this exciting center that has promoted and celebrated the Arts in this area.

Background

Clelia Sheppard was born and raised in Rome, Italy. She attended an English School in Rome, and proceeded from there to study art at the Academia delle Belle Arti, obtaining a degree in the Visual Arts and Scenic Design. She studied under the guidance of several powerful artists including renowned Sculptor Pericle Fazzini. Among his famous works is the colossal sculpture of the Ascension in the Vatican.

Clelia’s destiny took a sharp turn when she met American Navy Officer John Sheppard in 1979, while he was stationed in Gaeta, Italy. It was love at first sight. Clelia and John married in 1980 and started a new life together in the USA. After traveling extensively, they settled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia where they raised their four children, Renata, Sheila, Sean and Cleliuccia.
