Plein Air is a term used to describe a form of painting that focuses on a spontaneous outdoor experience. Plein Air painting was popular among the French Impressionists and has since lived on as a way to capture light and form as it happens that very moment.
Clelia has a passion for Plein Air painting. Since the very beginning of her career as an artist in Italy, she would spend most of her days painting her Roman neighborhood immortalizing stunning skies and landscapes that she loved.
Most of her personal and collective exhibitions during the 70’s and 80’s featured the Plein Air work she did in Spain, France, Germany and Italy.

Today she continues to enjoy this form of art and her work can be seen in galleries in Virginia including at the Stage Door Gallery and in her studio on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Samples of her work are in her online gallery (click here to view). You may arrange a private showing by contacting her.
Clelia Sheppard won the Plein Air Competion at the 2008 Cape Charles Harbor Party with this painting that she completed during the event. It was awarded to the Cape Charles Coffee House in Cape Charles, Virginia.
